Albion College is dedicated to molding the future of its students by helping them understand the history of the past. Both faculty and the curriculum are structured to encourage students to become the leaders of tomorrow in their own individual fields of study. This focus on the student includes activism, career paths and individual relationships. As an undergraduate college, Albion enables students to build a strong foundation, to learn how to accept hardship and to create opportunity. Based on the strong learning foundations of liberal arts, this school helps students to face the aspects of life, education and career choices with diligence and the attention needed to succeed.
Albion College provides a vital focus on disciplinary and interdisciplinary study in order to encourage students to optimize their education. This school also encourages diversity among the students and strives to instill the core values needed to carry out true civility both on and off campus. Free thinking and creative purpose are the core values that Albion College promotes to their students. Encouraging students to utilize their voice, seek continuous knowledge and respectively debate differences has enabled the school to help students develop into well rounded leaders.
School History

Albion College can date its roots back to the pioneer era, but received its charter in 1835 by the Michigan Territorial Legislature. Even then Albion showcased the utmost dedication to education by teaching the children of the early settlers as well as Native Americans under the very same roof. The school was also one of the first to co-educate in the Midwest. However, Albion College started out as Albion Female Collegiate Institute in 1850, then under the control of the Wesleyan Seminary corporation. It was not until 1861 that the State legislature granted Albion the right to provide a co-ed education, offering both men and women the opportunity to earn a full four year degree.
Back then, the school consisted of just a few buildings that hosted only two classrooms each. Albion College still resides on the same land that it was originally built upon, hosting these very same buildings, nicknamed The Quad, in addition to new developments.
Aside from the rich academic history of Albion College, the school has also left a legacy in the social community as well, becoming the first private college in the state of Michigan to acquire its own chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. This helped the school to encourage students to engage in the true meaning of liberal arts. Although the campus grounds have been redeveloped and new additions added, the rich history of Albion College is present in each building, classroom and residence hall.
Campus Life
There is always something to do on the campus grounds of Albion College. Students enjoy a wide variety of activities from week-long festivals such as Greek Week, to ongoing shows and performances at the Herrick Auditorium. Albion encourages students to engage their minds both inside and outside the classroom. The school hosts over 100 different student organizations that encourage students to get involved with their education, community and personal growth. There are also plenty of spiritual organizations, groups and guidance found on campus that welcome and encourage diversity and civility.
The Kellogg Center is home to a variety of different performing arts activities, dinning and the bookstore, where students can prepare themselves for classes and stimulate their mind. Albion College also offers a chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, the infamous co-ed fraternity that focuses on community service and humanity. This code of humanity and strong bonds is also showcased through Albion’s Best Buddies program, where students can reach out to individual members of the community to make a difference.
Albion College provides students a hands-on college experience both on and off campus. Developing programs and activities that engage and encourage students to utilize their education and experiences to help others has always been a strong focus of the school. In doing so, students can enjoy a solid foundation of support that molds them into future leaders.
Financial Aid

Albion College offers a wide array of financial aid options that assist students in paying for their college tuition. Financial Aid Counselors are available to students for questions and assistance choosing and applying for the various financial aid options. Although the most common form of financial aid is through FAFSA, many students prefer to apply for grants and scholarships as well to increase their educational experience without worrying about budget.
Albion College offers several work-study programs that enable student the opportunity to work while they learn. To apply for the work-study program, students must submit the proper paperwork and also apply through FAFSA as well. Albion offers positions both on and off campus to help students get accustomed to the work world while attending classes.
