Hanover College is one of the most unique colleges in the nation as it one of only few that offer a design your major program. This enables students the freedom to take courses in a variety of fields that engage and stimulate them, as well as incorporate the different skills they will need to pursue their profession. The beautiful Ohio River scene s and landscapes are enough alone to set a calm and serene atmosphere for students. Aside from its prestigious reputation for their liberal arts programs, Hanover College also excels in their pre-med courses, environmental sciences and education programs as well. Despite what area of interest a student has, the options at Hanover encourage students to venture into new grounds – testing themselves and developing new skills.
Hanover offers the ideal location for nature lovers and environmentalists, as it has access to many natural trails and preserves such as the Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge. Students can enjoy a strong support system and plenty of opportunity to advance themselves both individually and professionally while attending Hanover. However, this school is dedicated to helping the alumni advance their studies and careers well after graduation – as many students obtain internships and salaried employment right after graduation.
School History
The history and tradition of Hanover College date back to 1827, when they school was first established. It is currently the oldest private college in the state of Indiana, still determined to deliver a strong, high quality education. Since the school was founded, it has always held strong ties to the Presbyterian Church. As such, the school was established on the core values of dedication to education, student welfare and growth. Many of the regulations, organizations and school policies that were established upon opening are still used today. The education model of Hanover College has since inspired many other colleges to open in the area, giving students a sufficient source of educational options.
Hanover College is accredited by the north Central association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.
Upholding traditions is a main priority at Hanover College, which is why students are encouraged to get involved with their surroundings and community, not just academic acquaintances. Although Hanover does not discriminate against any student regardless of sex, race, sexual orientation or religious beliefs, faculty, staff and students are determined to carry out the history and tradition of the Founders by providing a well balanced and accepting atmosphere at all times.
Campus Life
When it comes to campus life, students will not be disappointed. The campus consists of over 650 acres of land that sit on the Ohio River. Many of the academic and group organized activities take place along the river, as well as in the nature preserves and the state park located just outside the campus grounds. Many students choose to spend their spare time in front of the Duggan Library, which actively hosts events and live performances throughout the year. Hanover students can always find assistance easily on campus as the school maintains a low student-faculty ratio to ensure that each student received the attention they deserve. First year students can find plenty of assistance with everything from filing for financial aid to scheduling their classes or finding housing. Office of Student Services, Bursar and Residential Life are open early in the morning to late in the evening to give students a chance to stop by in between classes.
There are also many activities and entertainment for students to participate in off campus as well since campus is located just outside four major cities. Hanover College offers an extensive study abroad program that allows students the opportunity to travel to a variety of different countries to optimize their college experience.
The majority of students live on campus in one of the residence housing buildings or apartment complexes. Residence halls accommodate students with everything from desks and work stations to beds and dressers. Students have their choice to apply for solo dorming or room with up to 3 fellow students to help them transition into college life with ease and support.
Financial Aid
Students at Hanover College are able to adapt faster and more effectively with help from the faculty and financial aid staff. The Office of Financial Aid is available and staffed all year round to help students and their families decide which options are best for them. Hanover accepts government issued loans and grants and even provides merit based scholarships and awards to qualifying students upon admission.
At Hanover, the majority of students receive some type of financial assistance to help them pay for tuition and expenses. Need based grants are given based on individual circumstances. Financial Aid Counselors are available to assist students to apply and qualify for all forms of financial aid. Many students also get involved with the work study program available at Hanover. This program enables students to obtain employment on or off campus to help alleviate some of the fees for school.
