General Recommendations & Requirements for Admissions
Amherst College offers a binding Early Decision offer, which allows applicants to submit their applications early in exchange for exclusivity. ED Applications have a November deadline. More than 90 percent of the school’s applicants choose not to pursue this route, however, choosing to apply by the later January 1 deadline.
The college’s application requirements include recommendations from a counselor and two teachers; ACT or SAT scores; high school transcripts and first period grades from the application year. Students must also complete a written essay and either a Common Application, Coalition Application or QuestBridge Application.
