Wabash College strives to provide a solid foundation for men to grow and develop socially, mentally and academically. Most commonly known for the Biology, Economics and History programs, Wabash offers students a well-rounded choice of both liberal arts and science programs – giving students over 50+ programs to choose from. Deeply driven by traditions and community values, students can enjoy plenty of annual and bi-annual events throughout the campus that encourage them to get involved with their peers and outer community. The college provides a warm and inviting atmosphere for both students and their visiting friends and family, offering plenty of entertainment and leisure activities to enjoy.
Students that attend Wabash College develop lifelong friendships and relationship with professional colleagues that enable them to excel as successful alumni. Many Wabash alumni go on to become well-rounded leaders, innovators and inventors – some even holding political office in their communities. Providing students with the resources needed to achieve their goals through a solid education is one of the main fundamentals that Wabash College was built upon. Faculty members can offer students a wider range of perspectives in their area of studies with advanced degrees and hands-on field experience.
School History
Wabash College was founded in 1832, originally operating as an English high school for boys. Although the founders had agreed on the value of a college institution for the local community and commerce, it was also agreed that the facility would remain operating as the high school until the demand for a college became undeniable within the community. While the founders of the school implemented the basic foundation and mission of the school, it was Caleb Mills, the first Wabash faculty member that is most widely known for developing the rich foundations and traditions that the College is still known for today. Caleb Mills became a Wabash icon, acquiring fame from his work with the Indiana public education system.
Wabash College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Over the years, Wabash faculty and students have showcased their support, loyalty and dedicated community service, to help students develop leadership and personal enrichment skills that will help them achieve their goals – while remaining involved in their communities. During WWII, the College offered students a direct connection to Naval careers and enlisting, as Wabash was one of the hundred or so national colleges to participate in the V-12 Naval College Training Program. In honor of the founders’ intentions, Wabash College remains focused on providing students with the most updated and challenging program curriculums and professional services in order to prepare them for their personal and professional success.
Campus Life
Campus life at Wabash College enables students to become strong men equipped with versatile skills and abilities that encourage leadership opportunities. Students can find a plethora of activities on campus such as the volunteer programs, Colleges Mentors for Kids program or the various art clubs. With over 25+ clubs and organizations located throughout the campus, the majority meeting on a weekly basis, many students are actively involved in several communities. With plenty of academic support throughout the campus, students can seek assistance with class scheduling, professional training and internship opportunities through the Student Services Office, which is available throughout the year.
To provide students with the full aspect of college life, while also preparing them for their independence, Wabash College offers a variety of housing accommodations such as residence halls, fraternity houses and apartment buildings. Over 95% of Wabash students live on campus or in one of the off-campus apartment housing complexes – creating a strong bonded student body that encourages each other to reach their academic goals effectively.
Many students participate in the varsity and intramural sports teams at Wabash, developing vital teamwork skills and concepts of responsibility that will help them succeed in the corporate world. Each year, the student body works together to continue the traditions and festivities of Homecoming Weekend that encourages friends and family members to participate in the school spirit and support. Competing in state and national championship tournaments since 1866, Wabash College has achieved over 400 championship and All-American titles combined.
Financial Aid
When it comes to financial aid, Wabash College provides students with endless resources and assistance in exploring funding opportunities that may help relieve some of the stress on students. Financial Aid Counselors are available to help students and their families understand the available options and submission requirements in order to ensure prompt approval. In addition to traditional government funded loans such as FAFSA and TAP loans, Wabash also accepts Pell grants and a variety of third-party scholarships as well. Many students will receive merit and athletic scholarships upon admission in addition to existing financial aid, this enables students to afford the out-of-pockets expenses related to campus life.
All Wabash students are encouraged to consider the work study program available on and off campus to provide paid employment positions to students, helping them alleviate tuition costs. Many students retain steady employment with the same employer throughout their college years, obtaining salaried employment after graduation. Many students also take advantage of the study abroad program that allows students to live in over 15 different countries, studying and volunteering in global outreach programs.
