Based on a strong liberal arts foundation, the University offers a wide assortment of over 1,200 course offerings such as Business Development, Music and Accounting, as well as a variety of science-based programs such as Biology and Human Sciences. University of Puget Sound students are provided with the academic environment inside the classroom, as well as outside the classroom, strengthened by a community of their faculty and peers through various campus activities and events

School History
Since the University was founded in 1888 it has evolved with the changing times while preserving the mission of the founders. Starting out with a mere 88 students, the University has grown into one of the finest liberal arts colleges in the country. During the first 20 years of operation, Bishop Charles H. Fowler, a reputable former president of Northwestern University was actively involved in the first annual Puget Sound Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, which began a tradition that has lasted throughout the generations. Maintaining a strong affiliation with the Church since the University opened; this tradition has over the years strengthened the connection between students and members tremendously.
University of Puget Sound is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges, renewing certification every 10 years.
The infamous University of Puget Sound pennant has been an unaltered tradition since the early days of the school. In 1891, the first graduates were honored from the Puget Sound Academy. During this same year, the facility was moved to the Oiumetta Building, operating from this location until 1903. However in 1893, the University separated its main course offerings to develop each individually. It was at this time that the University recognized the 5 divisions, which still remain in operation today – the College of Liberal Arts, College of Music, the infamous School of Expression and Oratory, now known as the School of Music, as well as the School of Art and the Post-Graduate program. Throughout the 1900s, the University developed a strong international presence, incorporating more courses, opportunities and developments for students and faculty members.
Campus Life
Upon entering the University of Puget Sound campus, you will be greeted by smiling faces and engulfed by the strong community atmosphere. Students can be found in groups throughout the campus, helping each other in study groups, participating in one of the various special interests groups or practicing with their individual athletic teams. Despite where you turn, the strong bonds between students and their peers and faculty members can be witnessed. With over 100 clubs and organizations offered on campus, students can develop their individual skills and abilities while learning teamwork skills that will last a lifetime. It is skills and abilities such as these that help University of Puget Sound students excel in their personal and professional lives.
All students have access to the Student Shuttle services that run throughout the campus and into the main city. With over 70% of University of Puget Sound students residing on campus, it is services such as these that make campus life more than accommodating. Students have their choice in housing from one of the various residence halls, apartment complexes and special interest housing facilities. The University offers storage facilities for students throughout the year as well as theme housing by request. Each semester, a housing lottery pool is held for students entering their senior year. This enables students a fair chance at the housing facilities and choice in roommates. The Residence Student Association is available throughout the year to help all students establish an easier transition to campus life.
Surrounding students in a stable environment, close to all vital essentials and services are important factors of the success of University of Puget Sound. All students are entitled access to dinning services, laundry facilities and counseling services, as well as the various spiritual and religious services. During orientation, students are introduced to all the amenities offered on campus including the Sophomore Initiative, the Office of Multicultural Student Services and the campus library.
Financial Aid
When it comes to the financial aspect of life at University of Puget Sound, all students are encouraged to obtain a copy of the Money Matters brochure from the Financial Aid Office before the start of the school year. This brochure, introduces students to the wealth of funding opportunities offered by the University of Puget Sound, as well as third party resources. Once students have basic understanding of these options, Financial Aid counselors are available to help students choose individual funding options that can help them optimize their college schedules.
The University of Puget Sound offers students independent funding raised from donations, fundraisers and academic programs conducted at the University. All students that have been awarded funding are notified by the infamous Award Letter that has been a Puget tradition for centuries. Educational loans are available from federal and state resources to help alleviate students from financial burden, while helping them to focus on their education during the college experience.
