The student body at Ursinus College represents over 35 states and 12 foreign countries. Students from all locations travel to the College to pursue their degree in a supportive and community-driven environment. Ursinus College maintains a strict honor code that has established a well-rounded and diverse environment for all students, offering a Zero-Tolerance for racism, discrimination or prejudice. The small 12:1 student-faculty ratio offers students the advantage of a more direct attention in the classroom that keeps students engaged and focused. All students and faculty members are given a personal laptop each semester to ensure they have all the resources they need to maintain their coursework and engage in additional research as they please. At Ursinus, students are never capped on resources and opportunities. All students are encouraged to find their own meaning of higher learning throughout their college experience, to stimulate their hunger to continue learning long after graduation.
All incoming students become actively involved in the “First Year Experience” program. This provides coursework and mentoring guidance that is used to help the new learners adapt and transition into college life smoothly. After the students successfully make it through the first year experience, they are then enrolled in liberal arts course, such as Music, Performing Art, and History, which are amongst the most popular courses offered. The purpose of the liberal arts classes is to culture the students. It is these liberal arts courses that strengthen the individual professional and program studies that each student pursues. The mission of Ursinus is to enable students to become as independent, responsible and well-rounded as possible. An Ursinus education prepares students to live creative and productive paths in life that showcase their leadership and civility skills.
School History
Founded in 1869, Ursinus College began operation as a male seminary school. It was not until 1880 that the school became coeducational. The College was named in honor of Zacharias Baer, a reputable 16th Century educator and reformer. Since opening, Ursinus students have been actively involved in their education, community service, and culture. In honor of the founders and early educators, the College based its academic structure on the traditional heritage of civic duty and the intention to help students obtain a strong education in order for them to help advance their communities.
Ursinus College is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
The rich history of the College is also present in the location. Collegeville developed after several local educational facilities that focused on the true meaning of higher learning. Shortly after the town was established, the local residents renamed it in honor of its civic contribution to students and the surrounding communities.
Campus Life
Students have a choice between dorming in resident halls or student apartments that are located on campus. Ursinus provides everything a student could need on campus. This facility serves three meals each day and offers a different menu that incorporates everything from main dishes and specialty salads to wraps and pizza. At Ursinus, you’ll work hard in the classroom. You’ll set ambitious goals, and you’ll achieve them. But your college education doesn’t just happen in classrooms, it occurs where ever your journey as a college student takes you. The Ursinus experience isn’t just what students learn; it’s the people students learn with. Financial Aid
Ursinus College is dedicated to assisting students with financial aid options to help reduce the stress of paying tuition. Upon admission to Ursinus, all students are considered for various merit-based aid, as well as traditional FAFSA loans, which can award partial or full tuition coverage. In addition to traditional scholarships and loan based financial aid, Ursinus also offers various work-study programs that can alleviate tuition costs for students.
