Colorado College
Colorado is a state with a broad range of higher education options; from an Air Force Academy to a mining school and everything in between, students can choose a school that’s the right fit for them. Most of the four year colleges and universities are located in the central part of Colorado, close to cities such as Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, Boulder, and Denver. Though the state is widely regarded for its larger research institutions, there are several notable liberal arts colleges in Colorado as well.
Colorado College is one of the top tier private liberal arts colleges in the country. Founded in 1874, before Colorado even became a state, it is a highly selective school. This college is especially unique because of its block plan. In this style of academic calendar, students only take one class at a time, for about a month each. The intensive time spent on one subject is definitely a factor that sets Colorado College apart.
Colorado Mesa University, located in Grand Junction, Colorado, is a public liberal arts university. There are two smaller campuses across the state; in total the school enrolls around 9,000 students and offers 60 different majors. The university requires freshmen and sophomores who are under 21 and not living with a legal guardian to live on campus, in one of the 12 residence halls.
